Privacy Policy
Applies to the Scanning.app iOS application · Last updated August 30, 2026
The short version: we don’t know who you are and we don’t want to. No accounts, no tracking, no analytics, no ads. Pages you convert are sent to our server, processed, returned to your phone, and are not kept as your document library. Your scans live on your device.
What stays on your phone
- Your scans. Captured pages, generated PDFs, and conversion results are stored only on your device. You can delete any scan at any time; deleting the app removes them all.
- Your settings. Preferences such as the Markdown style are stored locally.
What leaves your phone, and why
When you convert a document to Markdown, the app sends the captured page images to our processing service so an AI model can read the document and reconstruct its structure. The result is returned to your phone. This happens only when you choose to convert; creating PDFs works entirely offline and sends nothing.
Along with the page images, the request includes a random device identifier generated by the app on first launch. It is used solely to apply fair-use limits on free conversions. It is not derived from your hardware, is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any other identity, and resets if you reinstall the app.
What we keep
- Page images are processed transiently. They are used to produce your result and are not stored as a document library on our servers. Identical re-conversions may be served from a short-lived processing cache, which expires automatically.
- Service logs. We keep minimal operational records — such as a document’s detected title, page and word counts, processing time, and errors — to monitor quality and reliability. These logs are not linked to the device identifier or to any personal identity.
Who processes your data
Document understanding uses third-party AI infrastructure operating under their API terms. Page images are shared with these providers only to produce your conversion. We do not sell or share your data for advertising, and we do not use your documents to build profiles of users.
What we don’t do
- No accounts, sign-ups, or login.
- No advertising, ad tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs.
- No selling of data, ever.
- No claim of end-to-end encryption or fully on-device AI — conversion genuinely uses a server, and we’d rather tell you plainly than pretend otherwise.
Your choices
- Use only the offline scanner and PDF export — nothing ever leaves your phone.
- Delete any scan, or the entire app, at any time.
- Email us with any privacy question or deletion request: support@realtimecomms.co.uk.
